• Younger children (ages 0-6) are the most vulnerable to abuse.
  • Perpetrators often consist of family members, friends, and acquaintances. 95% of all victims know their perpetrators.
  • One in four girls and one in seven boys will be sexually assaulted before they reach the age of 18.
  • Disclosure of child sexual abuse is a process. It is estimated that only one in ten child victims disclose abuse.

During the 2016 fiscal year, 635 referrals were made to the Carrie Lynn Children's Center.

  • 527 were for sexual abuse and 108 for physical abuse.
  • 572 of the children came from Winnebago County, 45 from Boone County and 18 from other counties.
  • 399 of the children were females and 236 were males.  
  • Ages ranged from 6 years and under to 18.
